Frequently asked questions
Account
How do I create an account?
Open the Gymsies app and tap "Create an account." You can sign up with email and password, or use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google.
How do I verify my email?
After signing up with email and password, we send a verification link to the address you provided. Tap the link to verify. If you don't see it, check your spam folder. You can request a new link from the verification prompt in the App.
How do I change my password?
Settings → Change Password. You'll be asked for your current password (or to re-authenticate with your sign-in provider).
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, gym memberships, friend list, and message history. The action cannot be undone.
Gyms
How do I add a gym?
Goals tab → tap the dumbbell icon in the top right → search for your gym by name or address. If your gym isn't found, you can tap "Create this gym" to add it.
How many gyms can I join?
Free accounts can be a member of 1 gym. With Gymsies Premium, you can join up to 3 gyms. If you reach your limit, leave a gym first (Goals tab → Gyms → tap the trash icon next to a gym) or upgrade to Premium.
Why does the App show me a "Too many gyms" screen?
This appears if you're in more gyms than the current limit allows. Tap the trash icon next to a gym to leave it.
Messaging
Why didn't my message send?
- The other person may have blocked you. Blocked conversations show an error when you try to send.
- Check your network connection.
- If the problem persists, email us with the conversation details.
How do I report or block someone?
Open the user's profile (tap their name in Gym Mates or a chat row) → Block or Report.
Why didn't I get a push notification for a new message?
- Make sure notifications are allowed: iOS Settings → Notifications → Gymsies → Allow Notifications.
- Force-quit and reopen Gymsies once to refresh the notification token.
- If the issue persists, email us.
Location and presence
Why does Gymsies need my location?
When the "Active" toggle is on in the Goals tab, we use your location to detect when you arrive at or leave one of your gyms (a geofence). This lets your gym mates know you're at the gym. We do not track your location history.
Why is iOS asking me for "Always" location permission?
Detecting when you arrive at the gym requires background location access ("Always Allow"). iOS handles this in two steps: first you grant "While Using App," and iOS later asks if you want to upgrade to "Always." If you select "Keep Only While Using App," the Active toggle won't work for background detection.
The Active toggle turned itself off — why?
If your location permission is anything other than "Always Allow," the App resets Active to off when you open it. Update your permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Gymsies → Always.
Friend requests and workout invites
I sent a request but the other person hasn't received it.
Push notifications can be delayed, especially if their device is offline or do-not-disturb is on. The notification will arrive when their device wakes up. Inside the App, your request appears immediately on their Gym Mates row as a notification icon.
I accepted an invite but my friend says they didn't get the notification.
Same as above — push notifications can be delayed. Inside the App, the change is reflected immediately.
Subscriptions and billing
What is Gymsies Premium?
An optional subscription that currently unlocks:
- Membership in up to 3 gyms (free accounts can join 1).
- A faster Spot Me cooldown — 2 minutes between requests instead of 10.
- Trainer mode — display a verified Trainer badge so other members can find you.
- An animated Premium badge on your profile.
We may add or change Premium features over time.
How much does Gymsies Premium cost?
$3.99 per month or $29.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Prices vary by region; the actual price is shown in the App before you subscribe.
How do I start a free trial?
You'll see the paywall during onboarding (it's the last step, and you can skip it). After that, you can open it any time from Settings → Upgrade to Premium or by tapping Become a trainer with Premium in the Trainer section of Settings. New subscribers get the 7-day free trial automatically. You won't be charged until the trial ends.
Do I keep premium during my free trial?
Yes. You have full access to all Gymsies Premium features from the moment you start your trial.
How do I enable Trainer mode?
Trainer mode is a Premium feature. With an active subscription, open Settings → Trainer → I'm a trainer and turn the toggle on. Without a subscription, the same section shows Become a trainer with Premium, which opens the paywall. If you were a trainer before your subscription lapsed, your Trainer badge remains active, but you'll need Premium again to re-enable Trainer mode after turning it off.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Gymsies, then tap Cancel Subscription. You can also reach this screen from the App: Settings → Subscription → Manage or Cancel Subscription.
Cancelling stops auto-renewal at the end of the current period — you keep premium access for the rest of the time you've already paid for.
Will I be charged if I cancel during the trial?
No, as long as you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. After you cancel, your access continues until the end of the trial, then stops.
Can I get a refund?
All Gymsies subscriptions are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled entirely by Apple's process. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. Gymsies cannot issue or override refund decisions.
What happens if I switch from monthly to annual (or vice versa)?
Apple handles the switch automatically. Upgrading to annual takes effect immediately; downgrading to monthly takes effect at your next renewal. You won't lose access during the switch.
My payment failed — what now?
Apple will retry the payment for up to 16 days. During that time you keep your premium access (this is called the billing grace period). To fix the issue, update your payment method in iOS Settings → [your name] → Payment & Shipping.
I subscribed but the App still shows me as free.
Open the paywall (or Settings → Subscription) and tap Restore Purchases. This forces the App to re-check your subscription status with Apple.
I subscribed on my iPhone but my iPad doesn't see it.
Make sure both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID and the same Gymsies account. Then tap Restore Purchases on the device that's missing premium.
